Job Description Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: Under the
supervision of the Radiology manager and/or Lead Technologist the
Staff Technologist will perform radiographic and other related
duties as needed to facilitate workflow and promote health care.
Staff Technologists will operate radiologic equipment safely and
competently to produce quality routine diagnostic radiographs as
directed by physicians according to established standards and
protocols. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists physicians in invasive and
noninvasive procedures using proper sterile techniques. Obtains and
reviews documentation before performing exam. ie Physician
Prescription, Consent Form, and Contrast Media Questionnaire. QC’s
all exams in RISynergy as the exam is completed to ensure accurate
historical report data. Selects proper technical factors on an
individual basis to ensure the highest quality of diagnostic images
while ensuring that patients and co-workers are protected against
needless radiation exposure. Responsible for the thorough knowledge
of Radiographic policies, procedures, equipment, and supplies as
well as the operation of PACS, RIS, HIS programs. Takes an active
part in patient education by explaining the examination process.
Promotes positive patient relations in a caring environment by
making patients comfortable and at ease during procedures.
Transfers and positions patients using extreme care, patience, and
proper body mechanics. Identifies patients using the hospital's
double identification policy. Respond to backup calls as needed
within 30 minutes. Provide comprehensive instruction to radiologic
technology students during their clinical rotations. Demonstrate
proper techniques and protocols for a variety of radiologic
procedures, including X-rays, CT scans, and fluoroscopy. Supervise
and guide students as they perform radiologic exams, ensuring
adherence to safety protocols and professional standards. Offer
constructive feedback and encouragement to students to facilitate
their learning and skill development. Assist in the development and
implementation of clinical education curricula in alignment with
program objectives and accreditation standards. Collaborate with
academic faculty to integrate clinical experiences with classroom
learning and ensure continuity of education. Participate in
curriculum review and evaluation processes to enhance the
effectiveness of clinical education. Coordinate student schedules
and assignments within the radiology department, ensuring optimal
exposure to diverse patient populations and imaging modalities.
Liaise with hospital staff, radiologists, and other healthcare
professionals to facilitate student learning experiences and
promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Maintain documentation of
student progress, clinical competencies, and evaluations by program
requirements. Stay abreast of advancements in radiologic
technology, imaging techniques, and patient care practices through
continuous learning and professional development activities. Pursue
opportunities for certification, licensure, and specialized
training to enhance teaching effectiveness and credibility as an
instructor. Serve as a mentor and resource for students, offering
guidance on career pathways, professional ethics, and personal
development. Address student concerns and challenges in a
supportive and proactive manner, advocating for their success
within the program. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to communicate
effectively with patients, physicians, and hospital staff members.
Ability to apply medical terminology. Independent thinking to
exercise good judgment in determining actions in emergencies. Other
duties as assigned from time to time. EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE,
ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Preferred characteristics -
Associate of arts degree in vocational radiology technology or
formal AMA-approved educational program with certification. Minimum
of 3-5 years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist,
preferably in a hospital setting. Previous experience in teaching,
precepting, or mentoring students in a clinical environment is
highly desirable. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to
communicate effectively and collaborate with diverse stakeholders,
including students, faculty, and healthcare professionals. LICENSES
AND CERTIFICATIONS : Position requirements - Certified Radiologic
Technologist (California) & Fluoroscopy Permit (California) within
six months of hire into position, if required by shift. Must have
ARRT(R) 3. Current CPR certification is required. AGE OF POPULATION
SERVED: Newborn Infant/Pediatric Adolescent Adult Geriatric All No
Patient Care PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: See attached. There is a
potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
