Atmospheric Science Technology, LLCDescription:This part-time position is responsible for performing weather observing and forecasting functions in support of the Fleet Weather Center and its customers.Hourly pay begins at $30.56 Weather Observer pay/$35.70 Weather Forecaster pay plus $5.15 per hour for up to 40 hours per week Health & Welfare. Night and Sunday differential is compounded to base pay. Duties may include occasional overtime. The schedule will be determined by the Site Manager and may include holidays, weekends, and nights. Duties may include occasional overtime.Roles and Responsibilities IncludePerforms Meteorological Weather Watch, taking, evaluating, recording, encoding, and disseminating surface weather observationsMonitors radar and satellite imageryIssues weather warnings, watches, and advisoriesResponds to PMSVReceives and disseminates PIREPsProvides DD-175-1, canned route, and over-the-counter briefingsIssues Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts.Operates the Automated Surface Observing SystemMinimum RequirementsMust be a U.S. CitizenPrior observation certification with the Department of Defense (DoD), Federal Aviation Administration, or National Weather Service (NWS), including two years' of experience in observing, taking, recording, and disseminating surface weather observations using Meteorological Aviation Routine Weather Report (METAR) codePrior forecaster certification with the DoD or NWS, including two years' of experience in aviation forecasting.Must have completed a formal DoD training program for weather observing AND forecasting or equivalent NWS program. Meals are taken in conjunction with the shift and candidates will have access to a refrigerator, microwave, and limited vending machines. The workload will vary and may be stressful at times when bad weather is present. The candidate can expect irregular work hours to consist of days, evenings, and weekends.
